Gravity Falls is one of the most popular American animation series, produced by Disney Television Animation and created by Alex Hirsch. Alex Hirsch was inspired by his childhood experiences spent with his twin sister during summer vacations when they visited their relatives, which he took them and fused them into magic weirdness animation series. Gravity Falls was first aired on June 15, 2012, as a preview, then started officially on June 29, 2012, on Disney Channel, but later it transitioned to be aired on Disney XD on August 1, 2014.

Gravity Falls season 1 started off so well that the second series was renewed officially on, July 29,2013, just a few days before the finale of season 1. Alex Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls, confirmed on Reddit AMA August 2013, that the series would go up to three seasons although this changed and he announced on November 20, 2015, that season 2, will be the final season of this popular animation television series. The series has a total of 40 episodes.

Plot Summary.

This is an unexpected adventure of two twins Mabel Pines and Dipper. Where Dipper is the mature and bright twin, who is always obsessed with discovering mysteries and the paranormal, while Mabel is the funny twin who falls in love with boys and is very obsessed with the boy bands. Despite this differences, they would stand by each other, and no one and nothing would come in between them.

It all starts when the twins decide to take a Summer vacation to Gravity Falls, Oregon, to stay with their great uncle Grunkle Stan, who always had a thirst for money and was willing to convert every single opportunity to a financial advantage.

Gravity Falls is a mysterious town with strange things always happening, and monsters are found in the lake, there are paranormal forces and creatures of different species in the forest. Grunkle Stan operates The Mystery Shack-Which is a tourist trap.

The story begins to unfold when their eccentric uncle decides to ask the twins for help in running The Mystery Shack, of which they were not aware it was a tourist trap which had fake exhibits, which customers who did not suspect anything at all were overcharged.

With time, Mabel and Dipper discovered that The Mystery Shack was a hoax and noticed the town had very strange secrets, right after Dipper finds a certain book in the forest that had insights of the strange mysteries in that town. The unexpected adventure begins when they begin to search for the hidden secrets not knowing danger lurks everywhere in Gravity Falls.

The Gravity Falls town was inspired by the various national parks and towns that the creator Alex Hirsch visited.

Main Characters.

Dipper Pines (voiced by Jason Ritter).

Dipper Pines is an intelligent 12 years old boy. He was named Dipper because of the big birthmark on his forehead which looks like a shape of a Dipper(constellation). Dipper Pines always wish he was called Tyrone.

He tries to solve every mystery guided by the book he found which was marked “3”. He is very good in paying attention to every single detail, and he is very goal oriented which in return helps him to solve riddles.

Mabel Pines (voiced by Kristen Schaal).

She is Dipper’s twin sister, who is always very optimistic, buoyant with a curious personality which helps Dipper in solving some mysteries. She likes reading pre-teen novels and loves arts and craft but only as a hobby which is shown in “Headhunters”.

Grunkle Stan (voiced by Alex Hirsch).

He is the Twins’ great uncle. After his brother disappears, he takes his identity and his house and turns the house to The Mystery Shack, so that he would pay off the debts and find a way that he would manage to bring his brother back.

Grunkle Stan is a niggardly and a gruff businessman who has a shop where he sells worthless gewgaws to his unsuspecting customers. He is always driven by the desire of making money. Therefore he is willing to do anything just to get money.

Grunkle Stan loves the twins and cares about them even though he is always seen to give them hard tasks. He like the rest of the town has his personal secrets.

Stanford Pines (voiced by J.K Simons).

He is the author of the journals 1,2 and 3, he is also known as “The Author”, and Stanley Pines is his twin brother. 30 years before the series, Stanford Pines went to carry on some research which involved studying the strange properties and anomalies of Gravity Falls, Oregon. He recorded some of his findings in his journals but later disappeared, and his brother took on his identity.

Soos (voiced by Alex Hirsch).

Soos is the handyman who works at the Mystery Shack and a friend to both Dipper and Mabel Pines. He enjoys spending most of his time with Dipper.

Wendy Corduroy (voiced by Linda Cardellini).

She is Dipper’s crush who is a fifteen-year-old girl who works part time at the Mystery Shack. Wendy is very social and has had many boyfriends in the past that at some point it is revealed that she had an ex- boyfriend who she does not recall whether they broke up or not. She is always on Dipper’s side and loves to share her problems with Mabel Pines.

Recurring Characters

The recurring characters comprise of the voices of Alex Hirsch who is the Old Man McGucket, Dee Bradley Baker as Mabel Pine’s pet pig, Robbie Dipper’s rival and Wendy’s ex-voiced by T.J Miller.

Li’l Gideon the evil boy and owner of “Tent of Telepathy voiced by Thurop Van Orman, the Sheriff Blubs voiced by Kevin Richardson, Deputy Durland voiced by Keith Ferguson, Pacifica Northwest who is one of the most popular girls in the town is voiced by Jackie Buscarino. Toby Determine voiced by Gregg Turkington, Lazy Susan voiced by Jennifer Coolidge.

Dan who is Wendy’s father voiced by John DiMaggio. Tyler also known as Cut Biker is voiced by Will Forte. Gompers the Goat voiced by Frank Welker, Bill Cipher voiced by Hirsch, Stephen Root as Bud Gleeful and finally Candy Chiu who is voiced by Niki Young and Faruolo who goes by the name Grenda they are best friends of Mabel.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this show has always been a fascinating animation series, which has got fans looking for clues, messages and codes to solve the mysteries in every episode before they are aired. From critics, this series has always generally received positive reviews.

Although the season finally ends at season 2 the creator Alex Hirsch, promised to come with a new brand new weird animation series that his fans would love.
